As the craft beer craze continues to grow, more and more people are becoming interested in the brewing process. Why not experience this art form yourself, or, give the gift of home brew to a friend or family member? Like any hobby, the extent of participation can range from novice to advanced. Here, we offer you the simplest brewing kits possible that can still make quality beer for nine different ales. These kits are perfect for the first-timer or someone that doesn’t want to invest in any additional equipment.
Kits contain made-to-order dried malt extract, grains, hops, yeast, bottling sugar, a grain/hop bag, a stopper, a three-piece airlock, and instructions to brew about 1 gallon (~10 – 12 oz bottles) of beer. Unique to our approach, this kit simply uses a 1 gallon spring water jug. Just buy a gallon of your favorite spring water and use the water and brew right in that jug! No need to buy a carboy or any other equipment – just use the utensils already in your kitchen. To bottle your tasty brew, you can use any re-cappable bottle, such as a swing-cap style, regular brown beer bottles (requires bottle capper), or even re-use plastic water bottles.
What is an Irish Red Ale? This really not a technical style, though it has become a relatively popular request. Ours is brewed with a light malt extract, balanced with Cascade hops, and gets color/flavor from both crystal and roasted malts. The result a reddish-hue beer, that is a little ‘hoppier’ and less sweet than a brown ale, but has a little lighter body. Basically somewhere between a Pale Ale and Brown lets say…
